Hi there! Thank you for checking out my blog. My name is Alex Brown and this is my story.
At 24, while studying in London for a master’s degree, I realized a painful toe had become an ingrown toenail. I also began to experience a lot of pain in my right foot. My foot continued to be very sore and tender and I went to the podiatrist, who ordered blood tests. The tests came back with positive markers for rheumatoid arthritis. I couldn’t believe it.
As the pain worsened, I also began experiencing a “traveling” inflammation in my hands and feet. In addition, I experienced muscle and gut pain and found that I was highly susceptible to cold sores. I started to panic. I was reluctant to go to a rheumatologist, who I felt certain would prescribe drugs. I searched for another way to heal my body. I began researching medical and nutrition websites. I discovered that a number of experts recommended a whole-foods plant-based diet.
I wondered, why haven’t I heard of this before? Why didn’t my doctor tell me about this? It just seemed so simple, so logical.
Within several weeks of adopting a whole-foods plant-based diet, all of my joint pain went away. Not only did the pain disappear, but I had a new-found energy, I slept better, I had less anxiety, more mental clarity, I felt physically stronger, and had a more positive attitude day-to-day. In other words, my overall health improved.
Moreover, at my next physical my doctor said my blood tests were amazingly good; excellent blood pressure and cholesterol levels, as well as blood sugar and iron, and no signs of inflammation.
After this startling experience, it became a passion of mine to help people achieve optimal health and wellness. I believe that the foundation of a healthy diet is a whole-foods plant-based diet that is rich in fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains, nuts and seeds, etc.
Most people do not realize their own potential to feel good because their lifestyle often includes too many processed foods and fast foods that are full of sodium, saturated fat, added sugar, artificial ingredients and many other additive properties.
This blog will provide many practical plant-based facts, tips and recipes that will make it easier and enjoyable for people to have a diet rich in flavorful whole plant-based foods. In other words, it will be a guide to a balanced plant-oriented lifestyle that will likely precipitate the loss of a few unwanted pounds, result in more energy and general well being.
I want people to take back control of their own health and I believe that we need a population that is highly educated about nutrition and knows how to protect themselves from serious diseases.
Many people do not realize how powerful food can be for their health.
The ancient Greek physician Hippocrates wisely recited, “Let thy food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food.”
My mission is to share this powerful but simple message.
